About Me, Chris

Hello everyone! I’m Christof, a B.Sc. Data Science student at FHNW and a DevSecOps engineer specialising in cloud solutions. I’m based in Aargau, Switzerland, and have a passion for exploring the unknown, taking on challenges and constantly learning. I have a deep love for the mountains that define our beautiful landscape, and you can often find me skiing or exploring these alpine heights in my spare time. I also enjoy challenging my problem solving skills at hackathons and have previously served as a scout leader in the local Jungwacht Blauring.

I am driven by the excitement of the unknown and the opportunity to take on new challenges. With a relentless curiosity and a lifelong passion for learning, I always ask myself, “What can I do better?” This quest for continuous improvement underpins my work and drives me to deliver consistently high quality results.

From my early days of programming at the age of 10, I’ve been driven by curiosity and a high standard of work. I believe that while making mistakes is part of being human, the key is to learn from them and improve. I’m a firm believer in learning technologies at their core, rather than just knowing how to use specific tools or frameworks. One of my key strengths is my ability to learn and adapt quickly, a trait that has proven invaluable in our fast-paced technology landscape. This approach has driven me to create lasting, impactful solutions throughout my career, from developing Minecraft plugins for fun, to building an iOS app for students and teachers to share assignments, to developing novel CI/CD systems at Swisscom, to mentoring apprentices to create innovative applications.

As a former scout leader with Jungwacht Blauring, I’m no stranger to leadership and teamwork. My experiences there, coupled with my love of hackathons, have shaped my approach to problem solving: pragmatic, efficient, and always people-focused. In my downtime, you can find me skiing or traversing the breathtaking mountains of Switzerland.

Challenges are what make life interesting and overcoming them is what makes life meaningful.

In the ever-evolving field of data science, I’m committed to championing privacy and data protection - principles that I believe are critical in this age of ubiquitous data and connected devices. Whether it’s creating metadata collection systems to improve Switzerland’s speech-to-text technology, or building software to manage complex infrastructure changes, my goal is to use data to make meaningful and sustainable progress.

Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of working on a wide range of projects, such as creating an iOS app for students and teachers to share homework and assignments, developing novel CI/CD systems during my apprenticeship at Swisscom, and even managing apprentices to produce innovative applications. You can check out some of my open source work on Github.

As I approach the end of my Data Science degree, my ambition is to use my skills and experience to create long-lasting, interesting and novel experiences. I believe in the power of data to drive human-centred design and look forward to contributing to this exciting field.

As a seasoned programmer, I have explored a multitude of languages such as Python, Java, JavaScript, Objective-C, Swift, PHP, TypeScript, C#, C++, among others. Rust, however, has become a favored language in my personal development due to its intricate, but rewarding nature. Its philosophy, “if it compiles, it runs”, embodies the language’s challenging balance of learning and applying, yet is highly satisfying once mastered. The language encourages meticulousness, demanding thoughtful coding practices and careful consideration of correct and incorrect coding choices. Supported by a vibrant and collaborative community, Rust promotes principles of thorough construction over rushed execution. My affinity for Rust extends beyond its efficient performance, as it reinforces safety and correctness, resulting in fewer bugs and robust software, thereby enhancing my skills in software programming and architecture.
